"Like Having eBike But It’s A Kayak!"

5/5

by Owen on June 19, 2023

You never know when you get something like this. Will it work well?… is it worth it?… is it just a novelty item?… Well, I worried about all those things. But it was delivered on time, was easy to install on my Lynx, was easy to charge and prepare for my first trip on the Hobie Lynx eKayak lol.

I was amazed. You’re not going to win any races but I’ve found I can go further and go faster than just pedaling. If I’m tired I can just use the motor. If I want exercise I can just pedal. If it’s going to rain I can book it back to the dock with both. Besides that I’ve found the battery lasts forever for me. In fact I used it for 5 trips out bass fishing on our lake before recharging and even then it didn’t really need it.

Speaking of fishing for me it solves one of the issues I have. Catch a big one and they pull you into the trees and brush. Before I’d have to fight the fish and switch to reverse with the pedals and pedal him out of the brush. Now if I’m fishing near cover I’ll put the Mirage drive in reverse and use the TPP to move forward and troll around. If I hook into one and need to get backwards quickly I just start pedaling… already in reverse. Brilliant!

Nothing but good things to say about this kind of expensive but well worth addition to my kind of expensive but well worth it Hobie Lynx kayak.

RUDDER-INTEGRATED MODEL

"Game changer!"

I love my TPP! My wife and kids bought it for me for Christmas after I did a ton of research. I fish the flats and mangroves here in florida all the time and wanted something for those longer trips to be able to relax on the way back but still be able to use my 360 drive and my micro power pole. I didn’t want any crazy contraption hanging off the back of my Hobie Pro angler 360. I wanted to keep that sleek look and not have a ton of things I needed to setup in order to get out on the water. I couldn’t find anything! Until I came across the TPP! It’s like you read my mind on what I was looking for. The replacement rudder was easy to install and run a couple of quick wires. You can’t even tell I have a motor on my kayak. It’s allows me to still fish with my buddies who don’t have a motor (who will be buying one ASAP now that they have tried out my TPP) without leaving them too far behind. It’s exactly what I was looking for in an east to use, easy to setup motor. People can’t believe how quick and easy it is to just grab my battery box and plug in the two wires and good to go! It’s amazing how shallow this setup will run and paired with the kick up rudder I have put it to the test. I have even towed around a buddy for a few hours with no issues. Battery life is amazing! I already have a couple friends who have purchased one and a friend who purchased 2 of them. I couldn’t be more happy with my purchase and the customer service. Thank you for my TPP!

"The MAKO is a river fishing BEAST"

5/5

by Chris S. on Feb 18, 2023

I own a Hobie i11s & primarily fish shallow rivers. This motor has opened up so much water for me & allowed me to fish areas that rarely see another human…or lure. When researching motors, I didn’t want something that required me to take it on/off during transport or added a ton of weight to my kayak. After stumbling across the MAKO, I couldn’t believe that I found the exact motor I was envisioning in my head…without knowing it even existed.

I have owned the Mako motor for two seasons. Anyone reading this review that knows me knows that I wouldn’t be writing this with my name attached to it if I really wasn’t 100% satisfied. I’ll provide a few examples of why I’m so happy with this motor.

First, the seamless integration with the Hobie rudder and handle.

Second, installing the motor on the rudder creates an additional layer of protection for the motor due to the rudders ability to retract upwards when it strikes an obstacle.

Third, not only does the motor allow me to travel up river against the current, it also allows me to stay stationary in the current by adjusting the throttle control until I have it perfectly aligned with the strength of the current. Anyone that fishes rivers for BIG Smallmouth knows this is CRITICAL. Lastly, I have yet to run out of battery during an 8 hour tournament. Keep in mind, I’m using this motor to go several miles up river against current & to also stay stationary in the current when I find fish positioned in certain areas of the river.

"Weekend in the wind"

5/5

by Dave P. on Feb 14, 2023

Just wanted to let you know that the MANTA on my 2022 Hobie Outback and it worked very well this weekend in some challenging conditions. We had winds up to 25 mph and gusts over 30. To get back to my launch site I had the head wind for over 2 miles and the Manta performed great getting me back without having to use the Hobie drive, I wanted to see how much battery it require under these conditions. Checked the battery capacity after landing, i was surprised that the battery still had 58% of it’s capacity remaining and I was out for over 4 hours battling the wind. I was in very skinny water and was impressed in the depth of water the Manta operated in wasn’t sure how low we could go. The Bixpy can go a bit faster, but he can’t get into the same skinny water that I can, and the Bixpy makes a lot of noise, that’s not a good thing around spooky fish. Glad I went with the Manta it’s what I was looking for in a kayak motor.
